‘4 A Better Chandler’ will hold a Grand Opening for Phase 1 of its ‘Be the Change in Chandler’ Playground Project on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Chandler Town Park.
The ‘Be the Change in Chandler’ Playground is a three-phase project that includes play components and swings that are safe and accessible for children of all ages and abilities.
The project also includes rubberized safety surfacing for stability and protection from falls.
Phase 1 of the project includes a play structure and swings for children up to age 5.
The structure has 16 developmentally-appropriate play features, including an inclined tunnel, slide, race car track, bongos, bells, wiggle ladder, activity table, and more.
This phase of the project also included new pavement, which will be painted with a marked walking path, playground games, and a tricycle path; new fencing to provide a safe and open space for young children to play freely; and ample seating for caregivers and children.
The children of the community were allowed to design and paint wooden tiles that are displayed at the playground. These are being hung along the fence to help provide visual appeal and serve as a way for the children to take ownership in the project.
The entire project was a culmination of community efforts.
Fundraising took place through local events and change collections throughout town, and the playground was assembled by local volunteers.
